Annual Meeting

The Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology has convened regularly since 1904. We update this page with information about upcoming meetings as it becomes available. Typically, our meetings are held in a southern city of the United States in March or April of each year.

Paper Submissions

The Southern Society encourages paper submissions to its Annual Meeting. You may submit a paper in advance of your meeting registration. If your paper is accepted for presentation, you will then be invited to register for the meeting.

Graduate Student Grants

Up to six grants (three in philosophy, three in psychology) will be awarded to graduate students whose papers are accepted for presentation at the annual meeting. Each award is $300. Students can apply for these grants simply by indicating their eligibility on their submission form. To be eligible for a grant, applicants must:

  • be a member or applicant for membership in SSPP;
  • be a graduate student in a doctoral program in philosophy or psychology; and
  • be either the sole or joint authors of the paper or abstract they submit.
The grants will be awarded on a competitive basis by the Program Committee of each discipline, whose chair will notify recipients at the same time they are sent their acceptance notices for the program. Awards are decided based primarily on the quality of the submitted paper, rather than idstance traveled.

Griffith Memorial Award

At our annual meeting, SSPP recognizes two papers with the Griffith Memorial Award—an award designed to encourage work from early career academics. Award winners receive a $500 prize.
